Minutes for July 18

1. The finalist for the LTIII position were discussed and a decision made on a first choice.

2. The IMLS grant "Government Information in the Twenty-First Century" will require hiring a project manager. A candidate for the position was discussed.

3. Tours of Library during Five-State Conference. We agreed to offer tours of the library, concentrating on government publications. The tours would leave from the Gov Pubs reference desk. The starting times will correspond to the starting times of the sessions of the conference.

4. Restruant list for Five-State Conference: Linda and Martha Jo will work on a list of Boulder restruants that can go into the registration packets.

5. Rocky Flats Documents: Leanne described some recently received Rocky Flats documents received from DOE: Rocky FLats Environmental Technology Site Proposed Plan , July 2006 (E 1.2/2:R 59f) and RCRA Facility Investigation - Remedial Investigation/Corrective Measures Study - Feasibility Study Report for the Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site, June 2006 (E 1.2/2:R 59r/2006). There are 24 volumes that are on the Reference shelves. There are also 15 CD-ROMs that contain the printed reports plus additional data. The set contains lots of maps and other very interesting stuff.

Minutes for June 29

Minutes for June 29

1. Tim and Jennie reported on the highlights of the ALA conference.

2. Covering shifts: If someone knows ahead of time that they will be missing a reference desk shift, they should erase their name or make arrangements for coverage.

3. Frank Wilmot will be starting Monday. We discussed whether his office was ready with computer and supplies.

4. Student budget. The total student budget is $450,000. Jim Williams will be asking for $114,000 to be added to the permanent line.

5. Discussion of how the self-checkout stations work at Safeway.

6. NorBase Shelving problems: Concern was expressed about mishelving of material in NorBase. Linda will monitor.

7. LTIII interviews: The candidates were discussed and a decision was made on who to interview.

8. The Circ department has reinstituted a contract to use community service workers. They will be helping with the shift in the Norlin Stacks. We could also make use of community service workers. Linda will contact appropriate people. We may not get anyone until fall.

9. Circ Point: We discussed the possibility of checking out office material using Chinook rather than taking ID cards. Public patrons would be a problem as they would not have patron records in Chinook. If we are able to check out to most people using Chinook, we could make up a special form for public patrons.

10. Sudan Page: Jennie has been working on ways to get patrons from our subject specific web pages to related material in Chinook. She is starting with country specific pages and making links to set searches in Chinook. Check out the Sudan page. At the bottom are Resources in the Catalog. These contain preset searches for Sudan and keywords economics, history and politics. There is also a search on Sudan limited to government publications. Everyone should take a look.

Minutes for July 13

Sorry I forgot to put these up earlier!

1). Tim will be posting the minutes from the July 6 meeting (I believe).
2). Discussed various personnel matters.
3). Discussed the project to put brief records in for the uncataloged material. Will be starting this project with the foreign and state material.
4). There are 2 trials at the moment, Historical Statistics of the United States (see the next post) and CQ electronic library. If you have any comments on them let Tim know.
5). Tim has spoken with John C. and Jina and we will soon be adding all the World Bank E-Library records into Chinook! The call number will be 1000 I49 Internet and in the 001 field it will say something like "govwb" before the number since these are not OCLC records.
6). Linda will report back on the microfiche numbers issue.
7). Discard Lists: It was decided that the second check of these lists will be done by staff to help cut down on the number of extra items we are receiving.
Instructions for second check:
1) Initial the sheet.
2) Check for record in Chinook (check both title and call number). If there is a record write down any helpful identifying information, such as size and number of pages.
3) Check the superseded list.
4) Check the shelflist, if we have a card then we had the item at some point.
5) If you find in any of these steps that we have the piece only in microfiche, note it and Tim will decide if we want a copy in paper.
6) Check the shelf. Be sure to look around a bit, things are often just misshelved a little to the left or right.
7) If we need the item, circle it in a red pen.
8) Give your completed list to Tim.
Questions? Ask Leanne she has managed the discards for quite a while now.

That is everything I have on my notes, if I left anything off please feel free to add it to the comments.

Historical Statistics of the United States

Joseph sent me the link to the trial for Historical Statistics of the United States. This is not listed on the libraries trial databases page yet, but I did put it on our databases page at the very bottom under trials.
