Indian Treaties

There will be a class coming in looking for Native American treaty information. Their professor was in here this morning showing them some of our resources and telling them to come to us with questions. So here is a refresher on some places to look:
1). Native American Information page This is our page which lists both electronic and print resources. This page will probably get you where you need to go.
2). The professor was talking about the "Kaplan" treaties, but I think I misheard her and she meant the Kappler treaty series, which was distributed via GPO, it is online at: http://digital.library.okstate.edu/kappler/index.htm or you can view the various print versions by searching Kappler, Charles Joseph 1868-1946 in Chinook.
3). Just for fun, there are quite a few treaties in the the Early American Imprints and American State Papers collections, so try a search across the collections. I put in the EXTREMELY broad search terms of "Indian treaties" and got over 10,000 results.

Industry reports

There is a business class that is looking for industry information from the 80s. The information is not online, so they need paper books. There is a book RMA Annual Statement Studies call number HC .R65 (Business stacks in Norbase), that goes back to 1964. It has the financial ratios that the students are interested in. They will say things like they want sales, industry performance, or financial ratios. This book has the information they need. There is also the Quarterly Financial Report of Manufacturing, that has much of the same information, but it is more difficult to use.

Homeland Security Digital Library

We now have IP access to the Homeland Security Digital Library. It has been cataloged and is on the Find Articles and More list. This website is a joint project of the Department of Homeland Security and the Naval Postgraduate School. The HSLD contains most homeland security policy documents, Presidential directives, selected CRS and GAO reports, and papers written at the Naval Postgraduate School. There is basic and advanced searching, browse topics, and a page listing policy and strategy documents. Keep in mind that Homeland security deals with more than just terrorism and defesnse issues. You will find a lot here on bird flu and hurricanes.

For some reason, HSD and NPS feel that they have to have some control over who uses this site. Anyone can use it, but they have to register first. They now allow academic libraries to register their IP ranges so that no registration is required.

CD-ROMs are fun?

Ok, I take it back the CD-ROM stations are not all working. Two problems:
1). GFS is not working on the first computer. It is working on the second computer. The historical GFS is not working on ANY computer. I have a call into Anudas about this problem.
2). The CensusCDs are problematic. Some may not work (1970 for ex) because it won't let you save to the default file. So, to make them work go to File: New Request and then save it in the C:/documents and settings/libraryuser/my documents folder. Then it should work fine. When I update all four computers for the GFS problem I will update this and make it so you don't have to change the file folder. I will let you all know when I have done this!
