Staff Meeting: January 23, 2007
1. Sunday evening, February 4, 2007, Pat will be substituting for Ryan (as he wants to watch the Super Bowl). Go Colts! Go Whatever..... Rah!!!
2. Next weeks training session (January 30th) will be conducted by Leeanne. The topic will be declassified documents. There was also discussion about future session with the staff suggesting that information on the following areas could be presented: British Parliamentary Papers and Indexes, Technical Reports, etc.
3. Pat promoted a new monograph on OECB sources and databases.
4. Frank Wilmot's last day will be Friday (he may not be on campus). It was decided to ask him about where he would like to go to lunch on Thursday afternoon around 11 am. Leeanne will discuss with him about a restaurant. Ryan and Carly will be available to cover the reference desk while the staff is off campus.
5. Juniper Valley will be on campus to evaluate another department and it was suggested that they come and look at the physical working environment in Government Publications.
6. Sheila said that she had talked with Wendy (serials cataloging) about the DVD8 and DVD9 designations in MARC record 049 fields. It is OK to go ahead and change them to COD9 and COD8. There were suggestions that they could be changed globally in Millenium.
7. Sheila asked about reinstating "X-Linking" Serial Set volumes. This process was stopped after Serial Set #14599. Starting with #14600 "X-Linking" has not been done for approximately 250 SS volumes. The reason for this request had to do with the fact that the volumes now circulate, while formerly they were available only for in-library use. "X-Linking" will designate all of the items records for the individual documents within the volume as unavailable when the Serial Set volume is checked out. The conclusion of the discussion was to start "X-Linking" again and then arrange for retro work on the previous volumes that are not linked.
8. Students can only print from the FireFox browser loaded on the computers located in the reference area. Internet Explorer is another browser available for searching, but it is no longer possible to print. Direct students to use FireFox instead.
9. Directions have been posted for the automatic hole punch if it should become jammed. (Or use the "Jennie Gerke Method" by turning the punch upside down and shaking....)
