Department Minutes: December 12, 2006
1. Samantha Hager, the new librarian at the State Publications Library sent out an email concerning the report that was recently released by the Office of the State Auditor on Online Education in Colorado. It details significant problems discovered at the Hope Online Learning Academy, and points to lack of oversight and assessment by the Dept. of Education. The report hasn't arrived yet at the State Publications Library, but it is available online:

2. Gov Pubs Blog: Jennie described the new login procedure for the new version of eblogger. The generic login is govpubs@colorado.edu with the standard password. If anyone wants their own password, they must login and change.
3. Congressional Research Digital Collection: Tim discussed how much of the CRS retrospective collection is digitized. They are digitizing from the microfilm and the original microfilm collection was arranged by subject so the digitization is not being done chronologically.
4. Digital Congressional Hearings: Tim discussed the possible purchase of the LexisNexis Digital Congressional Hearings Collection. He has put in a request to the One-Time-Purchase Fund to get the hearings from 1823 to 1980. If the request is not funded, we may purchase the collection over three years.
5. ASI Cataloging Review: We did around 1800 records with more than half of them being serials. There was concern that OCLC says the collection is 99% i level cataloging. There is also a record in the sample records on the WorldCat Cataloging Sets web page that does not belong to our set. We need to determine how much LexisNexis will pay for us to continue and what years would be done. Sheila expressed interest in dong the cataloging.
6. Walkie Talkies: Sheila volunteered to purchase an inexpensive set of walkie talkies from McGuckens to test whether we can communicate with student assistants in NorBase. If the test doesn’t work, she will return the walkie talkies.
7. Kitty: we need more contributions to the kitty.
8. Web Junction: Kirsten gave a demonstration of Web Junction and how we will be using it with the IMLS grant.
